Last summer, DC-based GQ Insider Gary Williams embarked on a road trip with his wife, Dvon, to Eastern Canada:
Nova Scotia’s first wine appellation, Tidal Bay, is a sign of how far the industry has come. This crisp, aromatic white wine reflects the region’s cool maritime climate and pairs beautifully with local seafood. “I wouldn’t have said, ‘Let’s go to a vineyard’—or even known vineyards existed here,” Williams admits. Luckily, he got wise at Jost Vineyards, a 25-minute drive away from Fox Harb’r. Jonathan Rodwell, the director of winemaking and viticulture, hosted a tasting and tour for Williams and Dvon, who then went off to explore the property by bike.
From vines to vintage, lobster to lighthouses, this Nova Scotia road trip proved a hit. And especially for a city guy like Williams, the friendliness of small-town locals sealed the deal. “It was an incredible experience—one that you absolutely didn’t want to rush.”
