Officially launched in June 2012, Tidal Bay is the first wine appellation for Nova Scotia. A crisp, aromatic white wine, it displays the unique characteristics of our cool climate region and pairs perfectly with the local seafood we’re known for. The name Tidal Bay was inspired by the influence of the sea on all of the wineries located across the province. Although all Tidal Bay wines must follow the same set of standards, each wine is slightly different from one another, and wineries are able to uniquely express their individuality within their Tidal Bay wines. To obtain the Tidal Bay designation, all wines must be made from specific grape varieties, include 100% Nova Scotia grown grapes, follow a strict set of standards and be approved every year by an independent blind tasting

We encourage you to explore our vineyard

Grab one of our trail maps and get out and explore our vineyards. Hike up to the top of the vineyard and take a deep, fresh breath—you can see the Northumberland Strait from here. There are picnic tables at many places throughout the vineyard, conveniently placed for relaxing, viewing or a picnic lunch. As you meander through the vineyards notice the different grapes - you’ll see some varietals are trellised differently from others, this allows the ideal pruning methods to maximize their individual characteristics. The slope of the land and the direction of the planted rows are intentionally designed to maximize irrigation and sunlight, it makes for a relaxing and inspiring walk. The circular tasting bar, designed to resemble a large oak barrique, is the centrepiece of our cathedral-ceilinged winery boutique. It is a focal point in our winery because we are excited to share the outcome of our winemakers’ expertise with you. Here you will be able to try a variety of wine in sample sizes, giving you the opportunity to experience new and exciting local wine and to find the perfect wine to pair with your next meal or occasion. Our Grand Tasting Room

With the rising popularity of local wine and food comes the emergence of our scenically situated Devonian tasting room. We are pleased to offer our private tasting room for educational seminars for groups who are interested in furthering their wine and viticulture knowledge as well as for corporate events in a unique setting. Fitted with a state of the art kitchenette, elegant boardroom table, wifi, and big screen t.v. this room and the comfortable sitting room overlooking the winery’s tasting bar and boutique is an ideal venue for private gatherings. The tradition of winemaking is in our roots

The longest operating winery in Nova Scotia and a leader in regional viniculture innovation, Jost Vineyards descends from 400 years of winemaking tradition. The Jost family planted our first vines in 1978 on the Malagash Peninsula, jutting into the warm Northumberland Strait. Warmed by the slope of the land, and sharing the same latitude as the renowned grape-growing regions of France, Germany and Italy, the vineyard flourished and the winery was officially licensed in 1983. The winery store was opened in 1986 and quickly became a hub for community events and activities.
