We are excited to announce that our Gaspereau Reserve Riesling has been awarded a 2024 Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wine at a ceremony at Government House in Halifax on July 10th.

We are incredibly proud of our Head Winemaker, Gina Haverstock and her winemaking team. Although this is our first Reserve Riesling, this is the fourth Lieutenant Governor's Award for a Gaspereau Vineyards Riesling—our 2020, 2016 and 2015 vintages have also previously received the distinction. Our winery is very honoured to receive such a prestigious accolade and we would like to congratulate our fellow Lieutenant Governor's Award winners Blomidon Estate Winery, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, and Planters Ridge Winery.

The award, established by former Lieutenant-Governor J.J. Grant in 2014, recognizes the exceptional quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the dedication and craft of those in Nova Scotia's wine industry.

“With a burgeoning reputation for crisp, aromatic wines, Nova Scotia has carved a niche in the international wine market,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “I am proud to recognize the 2024 award recipients, as they epitomize the outstanding quality of our vibrant and dynamic wine industry.”

Through blind tastings an independent panel of experts chose the following wines as the best among the wines submitted:
  • 2020 Gaspereau Reserve Riesling, Gaspereau Vineyards, Gaspereau
  • Brut Réserve, Blomidon Estate Winery, Canning
  • 2018 Brut, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Wolfville
  • 2021 Brut Rosé, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Wolfville
  • 2022 Chardonnay, Planters Ridge Winery, Port Williams.
In total, there were 29 wines submitted by 11 wineries in this year’s competition.

The award is administered by Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia in partnership with the Office of the Lieutenant-Governor.

The award ceremony included the presentation of a certificate and gold medal to each winning winery.
